Ceramic terrace elements and ceramic composite slabs, familiar territory or new ground?

The new brochure "vdw mortar systems, planning notes on laying terrace slabs with ceramic surfaces" aims to provide further information on the current regulatory frameworks.

For the production of slab surfaces on terraces that are fitted with a ceramic surface, the ceramics and building materials industry offers a wide variety of products. In addition to full-ceramic terrace elements, generally 2 cm or 3 cm thick, a large number of different, so-called ceramic composite slabs are also available. These slabs consist of a bond between a concrete core, which is firmly connected to a ceramic slab via a contact layer.

For garden and landscape construction, the revised ZTV-Wegebau 2022 defined standard construction methods for the laying of ceramic terrace elements for the first time. However, these standard construction methods are limited to ceramic terrace elements with maximum edge lengths of 100 cm for pedestrian surfaces, or 60 cm for surfaces driven on by a car. Notes on the laying of ceramic composite slabs are not included in the ZTV-Wegebau 2022.

Independently of the various laying recommendations of the slab manufacturers, GftK provides comprehensive information and tips for planners and installers with its new brochure "Planning notes on laying terrace slabs with ceramic surfaces".

These notes are not necessarily found in the relevant regulatory frameworks; however, the manufacturer of the vdw mortar systems considers them important and valuable for producing high-quality surfaces with ceramic terrace elements and ceramic composite slabs.
