Art. No. 470001825

vdw 470 GaLa Drain Mortar is a trass-cement-bound factory dry mortar for laying paving stones and slabs outdoors — the ready-made bedding mortar for natural stone and concrete paving and slab surfacings.

  • pleasant consistency and no tearing when spreading
  • high strengths
  • suitable for traffic loads up to N3 to ZTV-Wegebau, i.e. the category trafficable over 3.5 t to DIN 18318
  • highly water-permeable
  • rapid hardening, therefore early foot traffic and jointing
  • can be mixed with water or processed dry without mixing
  • capillary-passive action thanks to high-quality polymer modification
  • prevention of rising capillary moisture with fine grit gradings

Application

Requirements The sub-base and base course must be sufficiently level, load-bearing and water-draining. They must be dimensioned so that no harmful deformations occur. Ensure drainage via a drainable substrate or a sufficient drainage gradient, if necessary in combination with a drainage mat. Ambient and substrate temperature > 5 °C, max. 25 °C.

Tools Free-fall mixer or forced-action mixer, water hose, spray nozzle, shovel, broom, paving tools, wheelbarrow.

Mixing the trass drain mortar Mix vdw 470 GaLa Drain Mortar homogeneously with 8 % clean, cold water (2.0 litres of water per 25 kg of dry mortar) to an earth-moist consistency. No maturing time required. Stiffened mortar must not be made workable again with water or with fresh mortar.

Mortar application The mixed mortar is applied in the usual way. Only as much material should be laid out as can be processed within the working time. In the compacted state the layer thickness must be at least 4 cm and max. 10 cm, depending on the area of use or construction method. Set the paving stones firmly into vdw 470 GaLa Drain Mortar by tamping. To improve adhesion we recommend dipping the paving stones in vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge before jointing. After 48 hours the surfaces can be jointed with vdw paving joint mortar.

For slab installation Screed vdw 470 GaLa Drain Mortar level, observing the respective bedding thickness. Before laying the slabs, apply vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge to the underside of the slab. The joint area must be free of vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge.

Alternative application (exclusively for areas with pedestrian use) The mortar is poured directly from the bag, applied in the appropriate layer thickness and screeded level. Then activate the laid-out area with a fine water spray mist. To improve adhesion we recommend dipping the paving stones in vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge before laying. Before laying slabs, apply vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge to the underside of the slab. The joint area must be free of vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge. Once the paving surface is complete, wet it thoroughly with water so that the water reaches the bedding layer through the joints and activates hardening.

Important The mortar must be protected from drying out too quickly and from rain for 12 hours. Cordon off the freshly laid surface for a period of at least 48 hours. After 24 hours the surfaces are ready for jointing. After 7 days loadable with cars. Fully loadable after 14 days.
