Bettungscompound
vdw 480 Bedding Compound is a high-quality, polymer-modified and trass-containing bedding compound for the simple production of drainable bedding mortar for laying paving and slabs outdoors under light to medium traffic loads. This includes, for example, laying paving stones for garage driveways, terraces and garden paths.
Requirements The sub-base and base course must be sufficiently level, load-bearing and water-draining. They must be dimensioned so that no harmful deformations occur. Ensure drainage via a drainable substrate or a drainage gradient of 4 %, or min. 2.5 % in combination with a drainage mat. Ambient and substrate temperature > 5 °C, max. 25 °C.
Tools Free-fall mixer or forced-action mixer, shovel, trowel, paving tools.
Suitable mineral aggregates e.g. basalt grit or quartz sand gradings with a grain size of 2/8 mm or 2/4 mm.
Mixing ratio 1:6 when using a grit from 2 mm grain size.
Consumption approx. 2.4 kg vdw 480 Bedding Compound/m²/cm (mixing ratio 1:6). 25 kg of vdw 480 Bedding Compound yields up to 175 kg of bedding mortar.
Mixing the bedding compound Following the mixing specification, place the mineral aggregates in the forced-action or free-fall mixer and add vdw 480 Bedding Compound. Allow to pre-mix well. Then add water until an earth-moist mixture is formed, max. 6 % of the total mortar quantity. Please note the inherent moisture of the aggregate used in each case.
Installation Apply the mixed bedding mortar manually in the appropriate layer thickness, giving a compacted layer thickness of min. 3 cm to max. 7 cm, and at least 4 cm in trafficked areas. With dimensionally accurate paving or slabs (concrete pavers, calibrated goods), the bedding mortar can be set to the desired layer thickness using screed rails. With split-rough paving, compaction is achieved by tamping in the paving stones. With smooth paving and slabs, a bonding slurry (e.g. vdw 495 Universal Bonding Bridge) must be used to improve adhesion. Working time approx. 90 minutes at 20 °C object & ambient temperature.
Loadability and jointing The following points refer to a temperature of 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity (high temperatures shorten, low temperatures extend the curing time). Surfaces created with vdw 480 Bedding Compound can be walked on and jointed with vdw paving or slab joint mortar at the earliest after 24 hours, or once the mortar has hardened. Full loadability after 7 days.
