vdw 520 SplittBinder EP is the two-component EP binder for decorative surface design. For producing chipping mortar in grain sizes 1/3 to 8/16 — one unit is sufficient for 25 kg of mineral mix. Suitable for tree pits, paver and slab banding, surface pavings, lawn edges and splash-guard strips, as well as for edging garden paths, terraces and driveways.

Application

vdw 520 SplittBinder EP is suitable for producing a chipping mortar with dust-free mineral aggregates (chippings, round grain, cubic grain) in the grain sizes 1/3 mm, 2/4 mm, 2/5 mm, 5/8 mm, 8/11 mm and 8/16 mm. With the contents of one unit (1.25 kg), between 25 kg and 40 kg of mineral aggregate (max. 20 kg of glass chippings) can be bound, depending on the grain size.

Areas of use and construction notes For pedestrian loads on an unbound base course in accordance with DIN 18315, at least 4 cm layer thickness. For pedestrian loads on a bound bedding or base course in accordance with DIN 18316, at least 3 cm layer thickness. For car loads only on a bound, drainable base or bedding course in accordance with DIN 18316, at least 5 cm layer thickness. We recommend vdw 480 Bettungscompound or vdw 490 Universal-DrainMörtel.

Tools Forced stirrer, forced-action mixer, free-fall mixer, mortar tub, shovel, broom, smoothing and screeding tools.

Preparation Clean the surface, joint flanks and mineral aggregate free of residue. Adjacent surfaces are to be protected against contamination by the binder by covering and masking.

Test area With natural stone and concrete paver surfaces, contact between vdw 520 SplittBinder EP and the stone surface can cause visual changes. Always lay out a test area!

Material preparation The binder components must be mixed intensively one after another, strictly in the order mineral aggregate, comp. A and comp. B. Then transfer the mixed material into a clean container and mix through once more. Do not add water!

Application Apply the prepared chipping mortar to the base course. Distribute using a shovel and screed level to the appropriate thickness over screed rails. Compact and smooth the surface.

Aftercare Cordon off and protect the freshly laid surfaces from rain for a period of at least 12 hours (at 20 °C). After this, the surfaces are ready for foot traffic. Final traffic release of the surfaces after 7 days.
