Cement Joint Mortar Color
vdw 415 ZementfugenMörtel Color. self-compacting cement joint mortar for jointing paver and slab surfacings in exterior areas.
Requirements Stable, load-bearing substrate, continuously open, non-pre-filled joint. Joint width min. 2 mm, max. 20 mm. Object temperature min. 5 °C, max. 25 °C.
Preparation Fix loose stones in place. Protect drainage inlets against ingress of jointing material, e.g. by means of filter fleece. Clean the area to be jointed so it is free of residue. Clean joints and stone flanks of loose components.
Test area With natural and concrete stone paving, contact between vdw 415 and the stone surface may cause visual changes. In general we recommend laying out a test area. For absorbent surfacings we recommend using vdw 950 SteinSchutz 3 in 1.
Pre-wetting Pre-wet the areas. With natural stones with a rough surface, cast concrete stones or absorbent pavers, the surface must be pre-wetted very intensively before applying vdw 415. With coated cast concrete slabs and ceramic terrace elements, pre-wet only lightly due to the low absorbency. Standing water in the joints must be avoided.
Mixing the joint mortar Place 2.85 to 3.3 l of water per 15 kg bag in a clean mixing vessel. Add vdw 415 and mix into a homogeneous, slurryable mortar. Then let it mature for 3 to 5 minutes and briefly re-mix. Settling of the mineral aggregate (sedimentation) must be avoided.
Filling the joints Apply the mortar to the wet surface and work it intensively into the joints under light pressure with a jointing board. Introduce the mortar so that the joint cross-section is completely filled. Pull off excess joint mortar with the jointing board.
Cleaning Using circular movements with a wet sponge board, prevent hardening of vdw 415 on the paving surface as soon as a matt colouring of the mortar becomes visible. After sufficient hardening time (approx. 30 min at 23 °C), clean the paving cleanly diagonally to the joint cross-section by means of a sponge board, without washing out the joints.
Aftercare Protect the setting mortar from drying out too quickly as well as from frost and temperatures < 5 °C and > 30 °C. Cordon off the freshly jointed areas for a period of at least 2 hours. Protect the freshly jointed areas from heavy rain for at least 12 hours. Walkable after approx. 2 hours, mechanically loadable after approx. 12 hours.
